Black August calls for us to Honor the Revolutionaries Before Us, represented by the Sankofa (in red) which tells us to go back and get it. An important reminder to learn from your history and not only get those lessons but apply them to today.

It also calls for us to Recommit to Self-Discipline, this is represented by Ani Bere A Enso Gya (in green) which is an Akan proverb that highlights the importance of patience, self-discipline, and self-control.

Finally, this month is a push to Continue on the Fight for Liberation, this is represented by the Tabono (black) which means “oar.” It’s a reminder of the importance of unity of purpose and how we must work hard together to reach a goal.
